During the course of this certification, you will learn how to leverage four key tools to help clients manage painful conflicts, including: 1) mindfulness, 2) distress tolerance, 3) emotional regulation, and 4) interpersonal effectiveness. Originally developed to help those with borderline personality disorders, DBT has been proven useful across a wide array of problems and disorders, from binge-eating to substance abuse to PTSD, and more.

With 80 Hours of Specialized Training + 6 months of consultation, this program consists of self-paced coursework as well as 1:1 guidance.

Certification

This certification is available to licensed mental health professionals

  • Licensed MH professional (counselor, social worker, psychologist, marriage & family therapist)

  • 80 Hours of required coursework in DBT

  • 6 months of consultation calls with a certified DBT therapist to assess implementation and adherence to the treatment model (casebook review; case conceptualization; documentation of skills group & consultation group)

  • Maintenance of certification requires demonstration of competence through continuing education & clinical experience every 2 years

Michele Galietta, PhD

Dr. Michele Galietta is Associate Professor of Psychology at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, City University of New York where she served as Director of the Clinical Psychology Ph.D. Program from 2005-2013. Dr. Galietta is a researcher and clinician specializing in the training, adaptation and dissemination of empirically-supported treatments to community and forensic/correctional settings.
