Key Issues in Videoconference Forensic Evaluation (VCFE)

This program provides an overview of Ohio statutes and the state’s mental health system, equipping attendees with the essential knowledge for conducting virtual competency forensic evaluations (VCFEs). Participants learn practical strategies for managing VCFEs, including handling emergency situations, and will examine key ethical principles such as informed consent, confidentiality, and professional boundaries within telehealth contexts. The program also addresses the practical and ethical considerations for selecting and administering psychological tests in virtual environments, focusing on maintaining test validity and clinical utility while navigating the unique challenges of remote forensic assessments.

Describe how to prepare for, set up, and conduct videoconference forensic evaluations (VCFEs) and how to manage emergency situations during VCFEs
Describe core ethical principles like informed consent and confidentiality and recognize common ethical issues in VCFEs
Describe ethical best practices for documenting, communicating, and making decisions in virtual forensic work
Describe how to choose and use psychological tests in virtual evaluations and know their limitations when done by telehealth
Describe when in-person testing is needed to support or replace virtual assessment results.
