This on-demand professional training program on the PATRIARCH-V2 is presented by Stephen D. Hart, PhD, and P. Randall Kropp, PhD in partnership with Protect International Risk and Safety Services.

Honor-based violence is a prevalent and serious international problem, and it is critical that professionals engage in best practices to prevent future incidents and tragedies. 

This program is the official launch of the newest version of the PATRIARCH, a structured professional judgment guideline for assessing and managing risk for honor-based violence. Significant updates have been made to the guidelines, reflecting advances related to research, practice, and the law and incorporating feedback from diverse professionals around the world.

This program is designed for professionals whose work involves risk assessment and management, including those working in criminal justice, security, victim services, forensic mental health, civil mental health, general health care, social services, human resources, occupational health and safety, and legal services.

Training Instructors:

Stephen D. Hart, PhD

Dr. Stephen D. Hart obtained BA, MA, and PhD degrees in psychology at the University of British Columbia. He has been on faculty in the Department of Psychology at Simon Fraser University since 1990, and has held the rank of Professor since 2001. He also served as a Visiting Professor in the Faculty of Psychology at the University of Bergen in Norway between 2000 and 2021. His expertise is in the field of clinical-forensic psychology, with a special focus on the assessment of violence risk and psychopathic personality disorder.

P. Randall Kropp, PhD

Dr. P. Randall Kropp is a clinical and forensic psychologist specializing in the assessment and management of violent offenders. He works as a threat assessment specialist for Protect International Inc., is a psychologist with the Forensic Psychiatric Services Commission of British Columbia, Canada, and is Adjunct Professor of Psychology at Simon Fraser University. He has conducted numerous workshops for mental health professionals, police officers, corrections staff, and others in North America, Australia, Asia, Africa, and Europe.

    This training is appropriate for licensed and pre-licensed mental health professionals at various stages of experience with risk assessment and management related to honor-based violence.

    • Beginner: Participants new to risk assessment or honor-based violence will gain foundational knowledge of key concepts, risk factors, and the structure of the PATRIARCH-V2 guidelines.

    • Intermediate: Participants with some experience in risk assessment or related fields will deepen their understanding of decision theory, combining risk factors, and the application of structured professional judgment using the updated PATRIARCH-V2.

    • Advanced: Participants with extensive experience in risk assessment and management will refine their expertise by integrating the latest research, legal developments, and international feedback into advanced practice with the PATRIARCH-V2.

    Format Practice occurs across community, institutional, and organizational environments where professionals assess, document, and manage risk and coordinate safety planning related to honor-based violence.

    Work spans frontline, clinical, legal, and administrative contexts that require interagency collaboration, culturally informed practice, and adherence to current research and legal standards.
