Live Virtual Training via Zoom

Andia Ruiz Payne-Narcis, MS, and Jesse W. Timmermann, MS, present a live virtual professional training program on Unlocking Potential: How Digital Therapeutics Can Transform Your Practice.

Integrating digital therapeutics (DTx) and wellness applications into psychological practice transforms mental health care delivery, this training aims to provide clinicians with a foundational knowledge of DTx and wellness tools, emphasizing their relevance in modern therapy.

Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of digital therapeutics, learning how these tools complement traditional face-to-face therapy and enhance accessibility for historically underrepresented groups. The session introduces types of DTx applications tailored to mental health, including tools designed for cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, stress reduction, and condition-specific interventions such as PTSD and depression. Special attention is given to applications that address the unique needs of marginalized populations, emphasizing culturally responsive and inclusive features. Participants will also learn practical strategies for integrating these tools into their clinical practice, including ethical considerations, evaluation methods, and ways to educate clients about their benefits.

The training bridges theory and application by showcasing real-world case studies where digital therapeutics have been successfully implemented, demonstrating their effectiveness in diverse contexts. Understanding and utilizing DTx is a valuable skill and a professional imperative in a rapidly evolving technological landscape. This program equips clinicians with the knowledge to navigate and leverage these innovations, empowering them to provide equitable, inclusive, and effective mental health care. By embracing digital therapeutics and artificial intelligence (AI), psychologists can enhance their practice, improve accessibility, and stay at the forefront of a competitive job market in mental health.

This training is intended for early to mid-clinicians new to the world of digital therapeutic and wellness apps for clinical practice. The training's objective is universal for any clinician who sees clients for therapy sessions and would like to learn to use digital therapeutic and wellness apps in practice. The type of environment they work in would be a clinic setting, independent or in a group.

Andia Ruiz Payne Narcis, MS, Clinical Health Psychology Professional, Researcher, and Advocate for Mental Health Equity

Andia Ruiz Payne-Narcis is an aspiring clinical psychologist whose work integrates research, therapy, and technology to address mental health disparities in Black and Brown communities. Andia's academic foundation includes designing and conducting independent research studies, assisting with NASA's leadership project, and coding qualitative data on astronaut team roles at the Institute for Simulation and Training. She also explored psychological constructs such as personality, self-critical rumination, and the need for closure in close relationships. As a teaching and research assistant during her undergraduate years, Andia cultivated skills that would later fuel her passion for advancing mental health care. After graduation, Andia worked as a psychological assistant at a neuropsychology clinic, focusing on clients of color. There, she observed how therapy could transform lives and developed expertise in writing psychological assessment reports, bridging academic knowledge with practical application. Her leadership in making these reports more accessible helped reduce psychoeducational stigma and empowered clients to engage confidently in their mental health journeys. Andia's master's studies deepened her understanding of the medical model, emotional regulation, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) while highlighting the transformative potential of digital tools in therapy. She has since honed her wireframe design and app flow skills, creating low-fidelity prototypes to enhance user engagement and therapeutic adherence. Her project, SundayDrive, presented with Figma and PowerPoint, exemplifies her dedication to blending technology with clinical health psychology. Andia Ruiz Payne-Narcis is a multidisciplinary professional committed to advancing mental health equity through research, clinical practice, and digital innovation. With a unique blend of clinical psychology knowledge and technological expertise, Andia envisions creating accessible mental health solutions for underserved communities. She is dedicated to fostering engagement through user-centered design and leveraging her skills to bridge gaps in mental health care.

Jesse Timmermann is a dedicated UX/UI Designer and Researcher with a robust foundation in clinical behavioral health and a specialization in the intersection of technology and mental health. With a Master of Science in Psychology from Palo Alto University and years of experience in both academic research and clinical environments, Jesse brings a unique, user-centered perspective to digital therapeutics. Jesse’s expertise lies in designing and improving digital interventions for mental health treatment, particularly for populations with ADHD, major depressive disorder (MDD), and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). At the Children and Adolescents Psychotherapy and Technology (CAPT) Research Lab, Jesse played a pivotal role in developing an AI-powered chatbot to support parents of children with ADHD. This project involved competitive analysis, information architecture, and risk assessments to ensure safety and user engagement. Building on earlier work at the Intervention Sciences Laboratory at the University of Arkansas, Jesse has conducted in-depth research into the effects of social conflict, trauma exposure, and suicide risk in young adults. This experience in behavioral insights, combined with clinical exposure at Springwoods Behavioral Health, informs Jesse’s empathetic approach to designing solutions that address the real-world challenges faced by individuals with mental health conditions. Jesse’s contributions emphasize accessibility, ethics, and evidence-based practices in the application of artificial intelligence for mental health. From usability testing and user interviews to leveraging AI responsibly in assessment and treatment, Jesse focuses on creating digital products that bridge the gap between clinical research and user needs, ensuring they are impactful and inclusive. This blend of technical skill, psychological insight, and commitment to user-centered design positions Jesse as a thought leader in integrating digital therapeutics into clinical practice.
